Our Essential, Access and Premier Hospital Treatment Plan policies provide a contribution to the financial cost of private cancer care following a medical procedure.

In many cases the benefit provided will be sufficient to cover the cost of a course of private chemo- or radiotherapy. Nevertheless the benefit provided is unlikely to cover the cost of the more expensive, and often latest, cancer therapies.

In recognition of this potential short-fall PatientChoice provides a generous NHS benefit for those patients who prefer to seek care within the public sector. This lump sum benefit can be used by the policyholder in any way that the policyholder wishes.

PatientChoice bases it decisions on which cancer treatments to cover on guidance from the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). NICE do not recommend cover for all cancer therapies.  NICE often excludes those therapies that are considered experimental or whose effectiveness has not been demonstrated.
